The Angel of Death loomed over the next victim he would take. It was a middle-aged man, totally unaware of the tragedy about to occur. He was with his family, at a carnival somewhere in the South of the United States. Details of locations never really occured to Thanatos anymore, since he knew where he was supposed to be at the time he needed to be there. The man's wife had gone off with her son into the midst of the mass amount of food places. The middle aged man himself had just gotten off a roller coaster called "The Screaming Demon". He and his little girl immediatley got back in line to go on the ride again. The man didnt know it, but he would never reach the front of the line. Thanatos watched as the man begin to clench and unclench his left hand, looking at it with worry. He clutched at his heart with his eyes bulging in their sockets. Thanatos moved in, it was just about time.
He stared at the struggling man a moment before plummeting his skeletal hand inside the mans chest and ripping his soul from his body. The body collapsed on the ground. Nobody could see Thanatos of course, and it didnt show any physical mark where he reached into his chest. The soul he had just pulled out of the man took a moment to materialize and became a ghostly figure of the physical body of the man that had just died. The man appeared suprised as mostly all did. He glanced down at his daugher crying and screaming at the empty shell of his former body. "Honey, its alright, I'm fine, I'm here" he said in a panicked voice. He tried to grab hold of her but his hands and arms just went through her body , and she took no notice of him. "No, I cant be... No" said the man desperately trying to grab hold of his daughter. "No, please! Please!" Thanatos walked up to the man and told him it was time to go. "No, I'm not going anywhere! Put me back, you monster, put me back!" Thanatos gripped the mans shoulder lightly. The man tried as hard as he could to shake Thanatos but, the Angel of Death"s powers could not be defeated. The man, once realizing he could not defeat the Angel of Death began to beg and plead with him. He said nothing that Thanatos hadn't heard before. He just ignored the man as he did with most of his victims.
Thanatos snapped his skeleton fingers and the man's hands and feet were bound with golden chains. He snapped his fingers once more and the chains began follow Thanatos as he began to float into the sky. The man moved as wildly as possible, trying to somehow get back to his family and the life he was leaving behind. The man didnt notice but as they floated upward, the sky changed form. It was no longer the blue clear sky as it was before, but now a dark and empty abyss, continuing forever. As they kept floating into the emptiness the world faded away and the man sobbed even harder after it was gone. They floated in the darkness for a short amount of time until they came to a spot where Thanatos stopped. He turned to face the man. Thanatos snapped his fingers and the chains on the man disappeared. The man was now quiet and not looking at Thanatos. His appearance was nothing less than defeated. He lifted his head slowly to look at Thanatos. Thanatos snapped his fingers again and into his hand appeard the tool he used to cut open the place where he was sending the man. The place he was sending him was into limbo where one day God would judge the man based on how he lived his life on Earth. Thanatos slashed with his tool into the open abyss and immediately a portal was opened. The man's eyes widened with fear, but he stayed silent. Thanatos snapped his fingers and the tool, his scythe disappeared. Thanatos faced the man for the last time before sending him into the portal. "Enter" He said in his cold metallic voice. The man hesitated before making his way into the portal. As soon as he was all the way through, it shut and Thanatos' time with the man was over.
Thanatos had to manually take the souls to the abyss and limbo but when he was alone he could shadow travel anywhere instantly. He snapped his fingers and he dissolved into the abyss and appeared outside the doors of an office. He walked through the door into a large office where a man was talking on his office phone behind a desk. All souls were the same to Thanatos but he knew there were certain people on the Earth that were somewhat famous for their accomplishes. This man was a famous business man and one of the wealthiest men alive. Thanatos came to be standing in front of the mans desk. As he stood there his mind drifted back to a time when he took another famous soul. He rememered it as vividly as the day it had happened.
Thanatos stood outside of a set of double doors. He walked through the doors into a large room covered with maps and nice furniture. Desks covered with papers through out the entire room. The room was empty save but one man, who was sitting leaning against the wall behind a large wooden desk. A gun was resting in his lap beside his hands. The man had a mustache cropped to where it didnt exceed further than his nostrils and his dark brown hair appeared to have been wrung through with his hands several times. In the distance Thanatos could hear gunfire and explosions. The man's face was extremely pale and sweat was beaded on his brow. His eyes drooped and he blinked slowly several times staring at the gun in his lap. Thanatos watched the man in patience, it wouldnt be long. Thanatos could feel the deaths of soldiers all around him and their souls waiting for him to deliver them, but it was not their time to be delivered, but this beaten down man that appeared before him. Thanatos slowly walked up to the man and crouched beside him. He stared at him through his hooded cloak with curiousity. The concept of suicide was always interesting to Thanatos. He couldn't picture choosing to die. The man on the ground grasped his right hand around the gun and stared at it for a moment longer, then with a quick motion he pointed the gun at his head and fired. Thanatos slowly reached into the man's chest and withdrew his soul. The soul materialized and the man stood before him. He glanced down at his body and then at Thanatos. The man never said a word. Thanatos snapped his fingers and the chains that would take Adolf Hitler's soul from the Earth appeared.
Thanatos looked at the man on the phone, laughing and chatting. The man finished his conversation and hung up the phone. Thanatos walked around the desk and stood to the right of the man. He stared at him curiously as the man scooted his chair back so his legs weren't under the desk any longer. He placed his head in his hands and rubbed his temples slowly. After doing this for a moment he sat up and opened a drawer to his desk. He pulled out a regular shoe box and opened it. He pulled out some pictures and stared at them for several minutes. He glanced into the box and his stare remained there for a moment before reaching into it. He kept his hand in the box as he stared at the picture. His eyes were red and watering. He took a deep breath, and withrew his hand from the box. The blast from the gun echoed down the hall.
